SAVE MONEY AND THE PLANET

Here are a few ideas of what you can do to stay ahead with the carbon tax:

Kick the halogen habit – We all fell in love with halogen. At 60 watts per light it’s time for a re think. LEDs use 10% of this amount, and the globes can be relatively simply switched. Mode Lighting at Gladesville and other lighting shops keep the LED globes.

Solar Panels –For not much more than a couple of flat screen TVs you could be making your own power on the roof. If you missed our last two bulk solar purchases you could still go it alone. Most energy providers have deals going. We also found Aussie Solar great to deal with both times. http://www.aussiesolar.com.au/

SAY NO TO PLASTIC BAGS

The energy used in the manufacture, distribution and disposal of plastic bags and the methane emissions from plastic breaking down is a reason to say no. Visit http://www.take3.org.au/

CONTAINER DEPOSIT SYSTEM

Recycling of containers also reduces energy use and fossil fuel mining. A meeting on 24 August of Environment Ministers will discuss implementation of a national container deposit scheme for plastic bottles. Visit http://www.boomerangalliance.org.au/cash-for-containers.html

WHY WE SHOULD ACT NOW ON CLIMATE CHANGE

Because 8 million people in Bangladesh stand to lose their homes from climate inundation. http://www.newint.org/features/2012/04/25/bangladesh-climate-exodus-dhaka/
